Win Hill Pike

Win Hill's little rocky cap is the best public-access viewpoint over Ladybower without touching National Trust or Severn Trent restrictions. The summit and its approach are CROW open-access moor, so you launch from the trig-point knoll — not the reservoir shore, where Severn Trent bans TOAL. It's a stiff 40–45 minute climb from Heatherdene, but the reward is a genuine 360: Ladybower's arms below, the Kinder plateau, Mam Tor's ridge and the Derwent moors all in frame. The gritstone summit gives a firm, level pad, though it's small and exposed — this hill catches wind from every direction and the air is often lumpy over the top, so fly a conservative, close pattern and keep a hand near the sticks. Bring reserves; there's no shelter and it's a long walk back. Ground-nesting birds use the moor in spring and summer. Come for sunrise or a clear winter afternoon when the reservoir goes mirror-flat and low light models the surrounding hills.
