Whiteleaf Hill

A quieter Chilterns viewpoint than the Ivinghoe/Coombe honeypots, Whiteleaf Hill sits on the scarp above Princes Risborough and is managed by Buckinghamshire Council, so it dodges the National Trust TOAL ban that closes so much of these hills. From the scarp edge you look out over the flat patchwork of the Aylesbury Vale, with beech hangers dropping away below — lovely in autumn colour. Two features to respect on the ground: the Whiteleaf Cross (a large chalk hill figure cut into the scarp) and a Neolithic barrow up top, which together form a scheduled monument — so launch from the car park or the track, not on the earthworks, and keep clear of the busy viewpoint crowds. Airspace is comfortably clear: you're outside the Wycombe Air Park (Booker) FRZ roughly 12km south and RAF Halton's ATZ about 9km north-east. Do keep a sharp lookout, though — this west-facing scarp is used by glider and model-aircraft pilots riding the ridge lift, so give any full-size or model traffic a wide berth. Small car park off the ridge road, short and level walk to the edge.
