Vicar Water Country Park, Clipstone

Vicar Water Country Park sits on the edge of Clipstone in the heart of old Sherwood coalfield country, a reclaimed colliery landscape now built around a long fishing lake with open grassland, young woodland and surfaced trails. It is an easy, low-drama place to fly on the Nottinghamshire plain, with the lake providing a natural reflective centrepiece and the towering listed headstocks of the former Clipstone colliery on the skyline as a distinctive subject. Managed by Nottinghamshire County Council as a country park, it carries the usual country-park expectations rather than a specific ban, so launch away from the anglers, the car park and the play area, and keep clear of people on the busy circular path. The terrain is gentle and sheltered compared with the region's hills, making it forgiving in calmer conditions and friendly for beginners, though open water always deserves respect on marginal battery flights.
