Trebarwith Strand

Trebarwith Strand is a dramatic, west-facing slot of dark rock and golden sand between Tintagel and Port Isaac, with the offshore stack of Gull Rock as a ready-made focal point. The Cornwall Council car park sits at the top of the hill; walk down and launch from the wet sand below the high-water line, which is Crown Estate foreshore rather than National Trust cliff - the surrounding headlands are Trust-owned and TOAL from them is not permitted. Time it for a dropping tide: at high water the beach vanishes entirely and you'll be stuck on the slipway. The cliffs funnel wind, so expect turbulence and gusty onshore flow on any westerly; a calm high-pressure evening is gold, with the sun setting straight down the throat of the cove. There's no controlled airspace nearby - Newquay and Land's End are both 25km-plus away - so the main hazards are people, the pub terrace and nesting seabirds on Gull Rock in spring. Keep well off the stack in the breeding season. Sunset here, with backlit spray and the black reefs exposed, is one of north Cornwall's most reliable drone frames.
