The Cloud (Bosley Cloud)

The Cloud is a gritstone hill on the Cheshire-Staffordshire border that stands proud of the surrounding plain, so its summit ridge delivers a genuine 360-degree panorama: the flat Cheshire farmland and Jodrell Bank to the west, the Peak District moors to the east, and Bosley Reservoir glinting below. It is a superb sunset and cloud-inversion location for aerial work, with the western edge dropping away steeply for uninterrupted sightlines. The complication is that the summit itself is National Trust land, where taking off and landing is not allowed. The workable approach is to launch from the roadside verge or public lane near Cloudside/Timbersbrook, below the NT boundary, then fly out over open ground while keeping your aircraft in sight. It is an exposed top - wind funnels over the edge and can be gusty and turbulent close to the rock, so give yourself margin and avoid flying tight to the crags. Paragliders and walkers use the summit, so check for other air users before launching. The short pull up from Timbersbrook car park keeps crowds moderate outside peak weekends. Aim for a still evening when the low sun models the gritstone and the plain glows to the west.
