Tegg's Nose Country Park

The western edge of the Peak District fringe above Macclesfield, where an old gritstone quarry has left a dramatic stepped escarpment looking out over the Cheshire Plain to the Welsh hills. It is a superb natural viewpoint - abandoned quarry faces, relic stone-cutting machinery and a hard edge that drops away to reservoirs and rolling farmland - and a genuinely different Cheshire option now that Alderley Edge (National Trust) is off-limits. The scenery does the work: rake the quarry terraces with low light, orbit the escarpment lip, and use the reservoirs below as leading lines. Being a managed country park it can be busy at weekends and there are sensitivities, so this is a weekday, early-start, sub-250g kind of visit, and you should check the ranger service's current position on drones before launching from the park itself. The escarpment edge and the open moor of neighbouring Macclesfield Forest give quieter alternatives. Strong, characterful footage within easy reach of the conurbation.
