Talisker Bay

Talisker Bay sits on the wild west coast of Skye, a dramatic amphitheatre of black and white sand hemmed by towering sea cliffs and a slender waterfall that spills down the northern headland. It is a quieter, more atmospheric alternative to Skye's honeypot sites. From the small parking area near Talisker House it is a flat twenty-minute walk down a farm track to the shore, so plan to carry your kit. Once at the beach the drone work is superb: the sea stack offshore, the cliff-fall waterfall and the graphic contrast of the two-tone sand all frame beautifully, especially with Atlantic surf rolling in. Skye has no licensed airport, so there is no FRZ here, but this is an exposed west-facing coast where onshore wind and salt spray are constant hazards. Time your flight around the tide, as the best sand is exposed at lower water and the bay narrows considerably when the sea is up. The walk crosses working croft land, so close gates and keep clear of livestock. Avoid low passes over other beachgoers on summer afternoons. Sunset here is spectacular but the light drops fast behind the cliffs.
