Silent Valley Mountain Park

The Silent Valley is the postcard heart of the Mournes: a still reservoir cradled by Slieve Binnian and the great drystone Mourne Wall, all inside a manicured mountain park run by NI Water. It is genuinely one of the most photogenic drone subjects in the country - but access is the catch. This is private NI Water land with a paid vehicle entry (around 5 pounds), set opening hours and byelaws; there is no automatic right to fly, and NI Water's default position on organised or commercial drone use is that you need prior written permission. Treat this as a 'caution' spot: contact NI Water before you travel, fly only within opening hours, and don't assume the gate fee buys you flight rights. If cleared, the rewards are huge - the reservoir dam, the valley leading up to Ben Crom, and the wall snaking over the summits all frame beautifully from modest height. Keep clear of the cafe, visitor centre and the shuttle-bus area where people gather. There's no FRZ nearby, the nearest controlled airspace being well over 40km away, but the valley is a wind trap and downdraughts off Binnian can be fierce. Calm, clear mornings early in the day are best.
