Sango Bay

Sango Bay sits right in Durness village yet still looks wild: pale sand split by grassy rock fins and sea stacks, backed by low machair cliffs, with water that turns properly Caribbean-turquoise in sunshine. It is the easiest launch on the far north coast - a car park and grass verge sit directly above the beach, so you can take off from the clifftop grass and drop straight down over the sand and stacks. The best material is top-down: the stacks throw long shadows across the ripples at low tide and the colour banding from white sand to deep blue is superb. A rising orbit shows the whole crescent with the village and the Kyle of Durness beyond. Being an Atlantic-facing north coast bay, wind is constant and often onshore, so fly on the calmer end of the forecast and keep the drone upwind of yourself. It is an NC500 honeypot, so summer days bring campervans and beach walkers - shoot early or late. There is no airport anywhere near. Note the Cape Wrath military range lies to the west across the Kyle; check for active danger-area firing if you plan to head that direction, though the bay itself is clear.
