Rossall Point, Fleetwood

The north-west corner of the Fylde peninsula is one of the most underrated coastal flying spots in Lancashire. From the striking timber-clad observation tower at Rossall Point you get a three-way panorama: Morecambe Bay stretching north with the full Lakeland skyline behind it, the Wyre estuary and Knott End to the east, and open Irish Sea to the west. On clear winter days the snow-topped Coniston and Scafell fells across the bay make a backdrop you simply can't get further south. The concrete sea defences sweep in satisfying curves for leading-line shots, and the Fleetwood-to-Knott End ferry chugging across the channel gives you a moving subject. It's usefully outside the Blackpool FRZ, which ends several kilometres to the south, so there's no airspace anxiety. This is a seriously exposed spot — there is zero shelter, and the wind over the seawall generates rough air low down, so climb out of it quickly and budget battery for a headwind leg home. Dog walkers and a few anglers are usually the only company. Winter brings big high-tide wader roosts along the shingle; keep well away from packed flocks of birds or you'll flush thousands at once.
