Roe Valley Country Park

Roe Valley Country Park follows the River Roe through a steep, wooded gorge south of Limavady - all tumbling water, old linen-mill ruins, weirs and the historic Dogleap where the Roe cuts through rock. It's a lush, sheltered, distinctly different subject from NI's beaches and bare hills: dense broadleaf woodland, dramatic in autumn colour. The honest caveat is 'caution': it's a council-run country park (Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council), and NI country parks commonly restrict or require permission for drone use under their byelaws, so contact the council or the Dogleap Centre before flying. The gorge itself is also a hard place to fly well - trees crowd the river, line of sight is easily lost, and there's little open space, so pick the more open areas near the visitor centre and riverside meadows for take-off rather than the tight wooded sections. Airspace is fine: City of Derry's FRZ is about 14km to the west, so you're well outside it. Parking is free at the Dogleap Centre. For the best results come on a still midweek autumn morning when the light filters through the canopy and the river is high - and keep well clear of walkers, anglers and the popular riverside paths.
