Porthcurno Beach

Porthcurno's Caribbean-blue water and white shell sand sit beneath the open-air Minack Theatre, making it one of Penwith's most photogenic coves. Launch from the beach itself - Crown Estate foreshore below the tideline - rather than the National Trust cliffs that wrap Logan Rock and the Minack headland to either side, where TOAL is banned. Land's End Airport lies roughly 7km northwest; you're outside its Flight Restriction Zone, but it's an active airfield, so keep a listening watch and stay well below 120m. This is a busy beach in summer, with swimmers, paddleboards and theatre crowds, so a dawn or shoulder-season flight is far more comfortable and lawful for privacy. The bay is a suntrap that turns turquoise on a bright day; a high midday sun angle gives the water its full colour. Winds off the Atlantic rip through the gap, and the granite generates mechanical turbulence near the cliffs, so give the rock faces margin. Pednvounder's tidal sandbar just east is stunning from the air but is a naturist beach - mind privacy and don't overfly people. A spectacular, high-reward spot that rewards early starts.
