Overstrand Beach

A calmer alternative to the busy Cromer promenade just over 3km to the west, Overstrand sits beneath crumbling sand-and-clay cliffs on Norfolk's soft eastern coast. A sloped concrete ramp leads down to a wide, firm sand beach backed by timber groynes and a low sea wall, giving plenty of unobstructed launch space at low tide. The retreating water opens a huge sweep of flat sand that is ideal for keeping the aircraft over the foreshore and well clear of people. Views run along the cliff line toward Cromer's pier and lighthouse, with big skies over the North Sea for sunrise flights. Norwich Airport lies roughly 26km inland, so you are comfortably outside its flight restriction zone, and there are no military fields nearby. Be mindful that the cliffs here are actively eroding and unstable, so launch from the beach rather than the cliff edge, and watch for dog walkers and anglers around the groynes. The village car park on Pauls Lane is a short walk from the ramp. This is genuinely open coastline rather than a nature reserve, so there are no reserve TOAL bans, though ordinary CAA separation rules from people still apply. A quiet, photogenic spot that rewards an early start before day-trippers arrive.
