Normanby le Wold

Normanby le Wold sits at the highest point of the Lincolnshire Wolds, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty of chalk uplands, dry valleys and big skies in the far north of the county. The rolling arable ridgelines, the escarpment falling away to the west and the sweeping views toward the Humber and the Trent vale give an unexpectedly grand, open landscape. This is quiet farming country crossed by the Viking Way, so take off and land from the public path or verges rather than crops, and be considerate of farm traffic and livestock. Two things to note: there is a tall broadcast mast near the summit at Nettleton, an obstacle and radio source to keep well clear of, and the surrounding fields are private, so do not assume a right to launch from them. There is no airport flight restriction zone at the high point; Humberside Airport lies roughly 19km to the north, outside its zone. The area is genuinely quiet, with few visitors midweek. Parking is limited to roadside verges along the Caistor High Street ridge road, so park with care. Fly on a clear, still morning for long shadows across the Wolds and the widest views over the vale.
