Nicky Nook

Nicky Nook is a modest 215m fell on the western fringe of Bowland above Scorton, and it punches well above its height for views — the whole Fylde coast, Morecambe Bay, the Lakeland fells on a clear day and the M6 threading below. It is a great low-effort spot: a short walk from roadside parking on the fell lane brings you to open access moorland where a light drone can legally launch, with a trig point and little tarn as ready foregrounds. The reason it earns a caution is Grize Dale Reservoir immediately below, which is United Utilities land — UU generally prohibits take-off and landing on its reservoir holdings, so keep your launch on the open-access fell top and don't TOAL down by the water. The summit itself is common land and fine. It is a quiet, family-friendly hill, so mind the occasional dog-walker and grazing sheep. Wind is honest up top with no shelter, but the walk-in is trivial if a battery runs low. This is one of the better quick-hit Bowland-edge shoots, and the layered view of estuary, plain and distant fells rewards a clear, low-sun evening.
