Monsal Head

One of the White Peak's signature views, and a rare limestone-dale subject that isn't locked behind a National Trust TOAL ban. From the car park by the Monsal Head Hotel you look straight down onto the Headstone Viaduct arching across the wooded gorge of the River Wye — a ready-made hero shot. Launch from the grass verge or the open ground at the head rather than crowding the railed viewpoint, keep the aircraft over the dale and orbit the viaduct for that classic reveal. The valley is deep and sheltered lower down but wind spills over the rim, so watch your descent into the gorge where you can lose line of sight behind trees fast. This is a busy honeypot: coach visitors, a popular pub, and walkers and cyclists on the Monsal Trail directly beneath the viaduct — never overfly the path or people. Best flown midweek or at dawn before the crowds and cars arrive, when mist often pools along the Wye.
