Magho Viewpoint, Lough Navar Forest

The Cliffs of Magho viewpoint, reached by the seven-mile Lough Navar forest drive, is the single best aerial vantage in the Fermanagh lakelands: a 300 m escarpment dropping straight to Lower Lough Erne, with the lough's wooded islands spread out below and views running to Donegal Bay and the Sligo mountains. On a still autumn morning the lough sits under a blanket of inversion mist and the footage looks like the Scottish Highlands crossed with the Amazon. Be straight about the legals, though: this is DAERA Forest Service land, and Forest Service policy is that drone flying from its property requires prior written permission — hence the caution flag. Apply in advance (they do grant it, particularly with insurance), or accept that TOAL here without consent is against the landowner's rules even if the airspace itself is uncontrolled. Flying conditions demand respect too: wind hitting the escarpment produces strong updrafts at the edge and rough rotor behind it, and it's noticeably windier at the top than at lakeshore level. The forest drive has a small vehicle toll and closes in the evening, so plan sunset flights carefully. Utterly quiet midweek.
