Loughrigg Tarn

A jewel of a tarn tucked below Loughrigg Fell with the Langdale Pikes stacked behind it - arguably the most photogenic small water in the central Lakes and far quieter than nearby Elterwater or Tarn Hows. For pilots it is all about the reflection: a still dawn gives you the reed-fringed tarn mirroring the Pikes, and a low orbit picks up the patchwork of drystone-walled fields. Be realistic though - this is a tight, cluttered valley bowl with fells rising on three sides, so keep heights modest and mind your line of sight over the trees. The tarn shore itself is working farmland, not a car park with a viewpoint, so it rewards a sub-250g machine you can hand-launch and keep discreet. Wet ground most of the year. It is a landscape that suits patience rather than big cinematic reveals, and the light does the heavy lifting.
