Llyn Gwynant

Llyn Gwynant is the postcard lake of the Nant Gwynant valley, a teal ribbon of water hemmed by bracken slopes with the Snowdon massif rising at its head. It is a favourite of landscape flyers for good reason: the river meanders, the lakeshore curves and the layered ridgelines give endless compositions, especially when autumn turns the valley copper. The A498 runs along the eastern shore with several laybys, and TOAL from the public verge or roadside common keeps you off the private campsite and farmland. This sits inside Eryri National Park, which operates a voluntary no-drone code across honeypot areas, and much of the surrounding land is National Trust, so be discreet, avoid launching from NT ground and never fly near the campsite when it is busy. Katabatic winds pour down the valley morning and evening, and the enclosing peaks can create sudden rotor, so treat your height and battery reserves conservatively. Early morning often brings mist sitting on the water with the tops clear above, which is the shot to chase. Keep well clear of walkers, paddlers and the road.
