Llangorse Lake

Llangorse is the largest natural lake in South Wales, a broad sheet of water on the quiet eastern side of Bannau Brycheiniog, ringed by farmland with the Black Mountains rising behind and the Brecon Beacons ridge to the west. It gives lovely wide, calm compositions, reflections at dawn, and a rare inland-water subject for a region dominated by peaks. The common land and shoreline around the northern and western edges offer open take-off spots, and there is parking near the village and the activity centre. This lies within Bannau Brycheiniog National Park, which asks pilots to follow a voluntary drone code, and the lake itself is an SSSI with sensitive reedbeds and wildfowl, so keep away from the margins in the breeding season and do not disturb roosting or nesting birds. It is a busy watersports lake in summer, with sailing dinghies, paddleboards and swimmers, so never overfly the water when people are on it; fly early morning when it is glassy and empty.
