Ingleborough

Ingleborough is one of the celebrated Yorkshire Three Peaks, a flat-topped 723 metre mountain whose distinctive stepped profile dominates the western Dales. The broad summit plateau, ringed by an Iron Age hillfort's ramparts and edged by steep escarpments, gives commanding views over limestone pavements, potholes and the Ribble valley, and the geology of the surrounding karst landscape is spectacular from the air. This is genuine mountain terrain, so treat it seriously: it is a long, exposed walk to the top, the weather can turn quickly, and cloud can swallow the plateau within minutes, all of which matter for keeping visual line of sight and getting your aircraft home. The mountain sits within the Yorkshire Dales National Park, which promotes a voluntary drone code, and much of the ground is open access under CRoW, which is a right to roam on foot and not a right to take off or land, so fly considerately and away from other walkers. There is no airport restriction zone up here. Carry the drone as part of a properly planned hillwalk, fly only in settled, clear conditions with light winds, and aim for early morning when the summit is quiet and the limestone country below catches long shadows.
