Higger Tor & Carl Wark

Higger Tor gives you the most sculptural gritstone in the eastern Peak: a flat-topped tor rising out of the Burbage bowl, with Carl Wark's Iron Age ramparts just below and the brook valley curving away south. Top-down passes over Carl Wark and a pull-back reveal from the tor's overhanging prow are the classic sequences, and both August heather and winter snow transform the scene completely. It sits on Sheffield City Council's moorland estate rather than National Trust land, which cuts both ways: no NT ban, but the council's stated position is that take-off from its land needs prior permission, resting on old model-aircraft byelaws that predate sub-250g drones. In practice quiet early-morning flights are how pilots handle it — this is not a place to fly over people at midday, because weekends get genuinely busy with walkers, boulderers and dogs. The plateau catches every scrap of wind funnelling up the Burbage valley, so give yourself margin near the edges. Airspace is simple, with the nearest FRZ around 28 km east; it's ground policy and crowds you're managing here, not aviation law.
