Hayling Island Beachlands

Hayling's south-facing seafront at Beachlands is a properly open Hampshire coast spot: a wide shingle beach with an uncluttered horizon over the eastern Solent and Channel, and — the pleasant surprise — no FRZ anywhere near. The island sits beneath Solent controlled airspace, but that base is well above the 400ft drone ceiling, so open-category flying from the beach is straightforward. Launch off the shingle facing the open water and you've got clean sea, sky and passing sail for compositions. Keep two things in mind. It gets genuinely busy in the season — for privacy and sanity, fly early or off-peak. And stay to the central and eastern seafront: the west of the island wraps into Langstone Harbour, a major RSPB reserve and SSSI you must not overfly, while Portsmouth's naval waters lie to the north-west and are best avoided entirely. The nearest FRZ is Lee-on-Solent (Solent Airport) roughly 16km west. Practicalities: salt spray and sea breeze are constant, so rinse afterwards, watch the incoming tide swallowing the shingle, and mind kite-surfers. A crisp off-season morning is the sweet spot.
