Hadleigh Country Park and Castle

Hadleigh Country Park spills down a ridge of rough chalk-clay grassland above the Thames estuary, giving one of the best low-level panoramas in south Essex: the ruined arches of Hadleigh Castle in the foreground, the shining creeks and saltmarsh of the estuary beyond, and Two Tree Island and the Kent shore in the distance. The open downland is ideal launching ground, but note two things. First, the medieval castle is in English Heritage guardianship, so do not take off right beside the ruins or send the aircraft close to visitors there - launch from the open grass and photograph the castle from a respectful distance. Second, Southend Airport lies about six kilometres to the east and its flight restriction zone extends this way, so confirm your launch point is outside it before flying. The existing community spot at Old Leigh sits roughly three and a half kilometres to the south-east, so you are clear of it. The park was an Olympic mountain-bike venue and still sees riders, walkers and grazing livestock, so keep clear of all of them. Morning light works best for the estuary, and the ridge can be windy - pick a settled day, park at the Chapel Lane end, and enjoy a genuinely dramatic inland-coastal composition.
