Gosford Forest Park

Gosford was Northern Ireland's first state forest park, a sprawling estate of walled gardens, veteran trees, an arboretum and the huge mock-Norman bulk of Gosford Castle, a Grade A listed pile familiar from television production. For a drone pilot the appeal is the mix of formal parkland, mature woodland and that dramatic granite castle, all wrapped in the gentle drumlin country of central Armagh. There are wide grassy areas near the walled garden and along the main drives that give clear launch points away from the tallest trees. The castle itself is now private apartments, so treat it as you would any occupied dwelling and do not fly close or overhead; there is still plenty to shoot with the arboretum canopy, the deer enclosure and the autumn colour. As Forest Service NI land the park has its own rules, and drone use here is not a free-for-all, so you should seek permission from the managing council and fly considerately around walkers, campers and the caravan site. It is a peaceful inland site with no airport anywhere near, so the airspace picture is simple. Autumn is spectacular for canopy colour, and a still morning after rain gives rich, saturated tones across the whole estate.
