Gortin Glen Forest Park

Gortin Glen is the Sperrins' front door: a steep-sided conifer glen beneath Mullaghcarn, threaded by a five-mile forest drive with viewpoints that look north over Gortin village to the bare, rolling spine of the Sperrins — a landscape that photographs far bigger than its modest heights suggest. Recent investment has given it a proper visitor hub, decent café and plenty of parking, and midweek you can have the viewpoints entirely to yourself. The legal position needs stating plainly: the forest is owned by DAERA Forest Service (recreation is run in partnership with Fermanagh and Omagh District Council), and Forest Service requires prior permission for drone flying from its land, so the honest play is to request consent before you go — hence the caution rating rather than a green light. If you do get the nod, the drive-up viewpoints let you launch high and work the ridgelines without long climbs, and the mix of dark spruce, open bog and glacial valley gives real depth to wide shots. Wind funnels along the glen, and the Sperrins brew showers quickly. Watch for sika deer on the drive at dawn and dusk, and don't harass them from the air.
