Digley Reservoir

A handsome moorland reservoir tucked into the Holme Valley above Holmbridge, ringed by heather, dry-stone walls and gritstone farmland on the northern edge of the Dark Peak. The dam wall, the reflective water and the sweep of moor rising to Black Hill make a classic Pennine composition, and a walk around the shoreline path opens several launch points on open ground away from the busy dam. Two land considerations apply: the reservoir is Yorkshire Water land, which asks visitors to be considerate and does not actively welcome unpermitted flying, and it sits inside the Peak District National Park, which permits recreational drones subject to the Drone Code and away from crowds and livestock. So keep flights low-impact, clear of the popular dam-top and car park, and courteous to walkers. It is a well-known local flying spot with an established community entry. No FRZ, nearest airports Leeds Bradford about 25km northeast and Manchester further southwest, neither a concern here. Curlew, lapwing and other moorland birds nest on the surrounding fells in spring, so give the moor edge a wide berth April to July. Best in autumn when the moor turns russet and morning mist lifts off the water.
