Coppice Hill, Cannock Chase

Cannock Chase is the largest lowland heath in the Midlands, and the ground around Coppice Hill and Brocton gives you the classic Chase mix - silver-birch, bracken and open heather with the Sherbrook and Stepping Stones valleys folding away below. It's accessible, well-served by car parks, and offers gentle, photogenic flying rather than dramatic drops. The important legal detail is permission: Cannock Chase's own guidance states drones may only take off and land with the landowner's consent, and the core is Staffordshire County Council country park plus SSSI/SAC heath - so recreational flying technically wants SCC agreement, and the nature-reserve and Forestry England compartments are off-limits without a permit. The pragmatic approach is to launch from the open grassy edges rather than the sensitive wet heath, stay well away from the deer herds (especially the autumn rut) and the many walkers, dog-walkers and mountain bikers. No FRZ bites here - RAF Cosford is ~20km SW and Birmingham's zone doesn't reach - so airspace is straightforward Class G. Autumn is glorious for bracken colour and rutting-stag backdrops, but that's also when disturbance risk peaks, so fly high and keep clear.
