Cemaes Bay

Cemaes is the most northerly village in Wales, wrapped around a pretty harbour and a sheltered sandy cove that faces north into the Irish Sea. It's an underrated pilot's spot: the harbour wall, colourful cottages and twin coves make for tidy compositions, and the water is often calmer here than on the exposed west coast. The town beach and harbour car park are council/public rather than National Trust (the Trust land is the Llanbadrig headland to the east), so you can launch legally from the foreshore and open ground near the harbour. The one thing to keep firmly in mind is Wylfa, the former nuclear power station about 2km west along the coast - it's a licensed, security-sensitive site, so do not fly toward it or overhead it, and keep your flight over the bay and eastward coast. RAF Valley's FRZ is well clear (roughly 20km southwest on Holy Island). This is Anglesey AONB with coastal nesting birds, so give the cliffs room in spring and summer. Best on a calm evening when the harbour light is warm and the day-trippers have thinned out.
