Cardington Airship Sheds (from public footpaths)

The two Cardington sheds are among the largest structures in Britain — 1920s airship hangars nearly 250 metres long, built for the R101, now used as film stages and visible from half of Bedfordshire. From the air their sheer green bulk against flat farmland is a genuinely unusual image, and industrial-heritage flights this good are rare in the Herts/Beds belt, where Luton's FRZ and National Trust downland close off most of the obvious options. The legal position needs care, hence the caution flag. The airfield and sheds are private property with studio security, so this is strictly a fly-from-outside job: TOAL from the public footpaths and lanes around the perimeter, keep a respectful distance, and don't loiter over the sheds themselves — productions are protective and there's no public interest in you appearing on their CCTV at 30 metres. The old airfield still sees occasional aviation, including hot-air balloon launches, so check NOTAMs and keep your eyes up. Shuttleworth's vintage aircraft at Old Warden, about 10 km southeast, run display days with temporary airspace restrictions that can reach this way. Flat ground, honest wind, easy walking — a tidy evening flight when the light goes golden on all that corrugated steel.
