Camusdarach & Silver Sands of Morar

The string of beaches between Arisaig and Morar — Camusdarach the pick of them — gives you white sand, rocky skerries and, crucially, a horizon full of islands: Eigg's dramatic sgurr, Rum's mountains, and the Skye Cuillin to the north. Few UK coastal flights offer a backdrop like it. Launch from the beach below the Camusdarach car park (a short walk through the dunes) and work low over the turquoise shallows at mid-tide, then climb for the island panorama. Sunset is the event here: the sun drops between Eigg and Rum for much of the year and the afterglow over the Sound of Arisaig is worth staying for, so pack spare batteries and a head torch for the dune walk back. Legally it is straightforward — foreshore and open coast with Scottish access rights, no FRZ within reach (the nearest small strips at Broadford and Glenforsa carry no restriction zone), and no local byelaws affecting drones. In July and August the beaches draw families and campers from the nearby sites, so fly the quieter northern ends or go early; the rest of the year it is close to deserted. Salt haze can soften long island shots — a polariser or post-contrast helps. Watch for sea eagles working this coast: if one shows interest in your drone, descend and land.
