Calgary Bay, Isle of Mull

The finest beach on Mull and the namesake of the Canadian city — a broad crescent of pale shell-sand backed by machair and low green headlands, with turquoise water on a sunny day that could pass for the tropics. It's a joy to fly: a vertical over the bay reveals the full arc of sand and the colour gradient from white shallows to deep blue, and a run out past the flanking headlands opens views to Coll and the Treshnish Isles on the horizon. Early and late light rakes across the ripples in the sand beautifully. Being the far northwest tip of Mull, it's genuinely remote and quiet outside peak summer. Wind is the main variable — Atlantic gusts sweep straight into the bay, so a sub-250g drone wants a settled morning, and salt spray means a post-flight wipe-down. There's a free car park and informal camping area behind the beach; TOAL from the sand or machair under access rights, giving campers and dogs a wide berth. No airport FRZ anywhere near — this is deep Hebrides. Otters and waders frequent the shoreline, so keep low passes short and don't chase wildlife.
