Bridlington South Beach

Bridlington's South Beach is a long, gently curving stretch of firm golden sand running away from the harbour down the East Yorkshire coast, backed by low dunes and open sky. Away from the busy promenade and amusements of the town centre, the southern end offers wide, uncluttered sand where you can find room to launch and land with clear sightlines out over the North Sea and back towards the harbour arms and the town's skyline. The flat, open aspect makes it a forgiving place to practise coastal orbits and reveals, and at low tide the expanse of ribbed sand and reflected sky is a subject in itself. It is a family resort beach, so in summer and at weekends it can be lively with holidaymakers, and you should keep well away from people, the promenade and the harbour operations. Humberside Airport is more than fifty kilometres to the south west, well outside its restriction zone, while the RSPB seabird cliffs at Bempton lie several kilometres to the north and are best avoided in the breeding season. Fly out of season or early in the day for empty sand, come at low tide for the widest firm surface, and shoot with morning light warming the beach and harbour.
