Baslow Edge (Curbar Gap)

Baslow Edge is the quieter, gentler sibling of the honeypot eastern edges - a broad gritstone escarpment with the Eagle Stone perched on top and long views west over the Derwent Valley to Chatsworth and the White Peak beyond. Park at Curbar Gap (small pay-and-display; fills early on fine weekends) and it's a five-minute stroll south onto the edge. The flying is glorious: a clean drop, weathered boulders for foreground, and heather that glows purple in August. The honest complication is landowner status. This isn't fly-anywhere land - the edge and moor are Peak District National Park Authority freehold managed by the Eastern Moors Partnership (RSPB and National Trust), who actively discourage drones because of ground-nesting birds and grazing stock. It isn't NT-owned so the outright NT ban doesn't strictly bite, but treat it as sensitive: launch from the public road verge or the bridleway rather than out on the reserve, avoid the bird-nesting window, and keep well clear of grazing cattle and climbers on the edge. No FRZ within 40km, and takeoff is easy on the flat moor top.
