Ballycastle Beach

Ballycastle gives you a genuinely dramatic Causeway-coast scene without setting foot on National Trust land. The curving strand runs east from the harbour toward the bulk of Fair Head, with Rathlin Island offshore and, on a clear day, the Mull of Kintyre across the water. This is a Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council beach with a Blue Flag pedigree, publicly accessible, with a large seafront car park and promenade right behind the sand. Launch from the beach itself, keeping the aircraft away from the promenade crowds, and you can work the harbour arm, the marina and the sweep of the bay. Be realistic about crowds: in summer and on fine weekends this is one of the busiest beaches in the north, with families, dog walkers and the ferry terminal all in play, so an off-season or early-morning slot makes compliant separation from people far easier. The imposing headland to the east, Fair Head and Murlough Bay, is National Trust and DAERA land, so do not drift over to launch there. No FRZ is close, the nearest sizeable airport being Belfast International around 50km south. Sea breezes and the Fair Head venturi can make the eastern end gusty, so keep margins over the water.
